Ashington Town Council sent a clear message that climate change and the environment is at the top of their agenda when it agreed to elevate the Climate Change and Environment Group to a standing committee of the Council. The committee will include all eighteen members of Ashington Town Council and it is expected to have fully delegated powers of decision-making when the terms of reference are agreed in July.
With all councillors and officers on board, the Council hopes to be able to raise the profile of the committee, as well as raising awareness and building support to act.

Ashington Town Council agreed to re-elect Cllr Mark Purvis as Chair of the Council, with Cllr Marjorie Chambers re-elected as Vice-Chair.
Cllr Purvis said he was extremely proud to be once again in the trusted position of Chair of the Council, and he looked forward to the year ahead.
Cllr Pauline Thompson handed over the honour of Civic Head to Cllr Bob Walkinshaw. Cllr Victor Bridges was elected Deputy Civic-Head.
Ashington Town Council re-elected Cllr Matthew Cuthbert as the Leader and Cllr Lawrence Henderson was elected Deputy Leader.

Ashington Town Council is delighted to announce that we will be working with Christmas lighting specialists Gala Lights to bring a fresh, festive flair to Ashington’s main street.
Building on the locally designed Christmas lighting features the town council own, we aim to step-up the sparkle from the centre of Station Road, moving outwards.

Ashington Hirst Running Club have a new home from Thursday 5 August, when we join forces with Ashington Rugby Club, using their training ground and facilities as our new base for the running club.

Seven decades have passed since Her Majesty the Queen acceded to the throne. Whether or not you fully understand exactly what has happened in regards Bank Holidays, it would be difficult to miss that 2022 marks 70 years of service, the longest reign of any British Monarch – The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
With that in mind, Ashington Town Council pledged to support those groups who wished to mark the occasion by offering funding of £250 towards an event, activity or project.
Twelve thoroughly royal assemblies applied and all twelve were delighted to receive confirmation that their event would be supported.
