Carers Week (6–12 June 2022)

Carers Week (6–12 June 2022)

Carers Week is an annual awareness campaign that celebrates and recognises the vital contribution of the UK’s unpaid carers – supporting family members and friends who are older, have a disability, mental or physical illness or need extra help as they grow older.

During Carers Week 2022 Carers Northumberland is inviting health and care services, schools, employers and businesses across the community to recognise the vital contribution made by unpaid carers in Northumberland.

Carers Northumberland is a charity dedicated to improving the lives of unpaid carers by responding to their needs, informing them of their rights and entitlements. We can support them in accessing help for the person they are caring for, reduce their feelings of social isolation and empowering them to have a voice.

Debra Blakley ,Chief Executive of Carers Northumberland, said:

“This Carers Week we are recognising the contribution of unpaid carers in Northumberland, unpaid carers are valued asset to our health and social care system, Carers Week is an opportunity for us to shine a light on the amazing job unpaid carers do and to let them know they are appreciated.

We want carers to make themselves known so they can access the support and services on offer to help them in their caring role, they do not need to do this alone! Caring without the right information and support can be hard, carers who do not recognise themselves as a carer could be missing out on help, advice and information, which can have serious personal, health and financial implications for them.

During carers week we are organising a seriers of walks in some of the lovely locations we have in Northumberland to make caring visible, will be hosting a number of afternoon teas around the county to show carers they are valued, and with the support of other organisations we are also running a program events aimed at improving carers health and wellbeing to support them in their caring role.

Details about all our Carers Week events can be found on our website: www.carersnorthumberland.org.uk/news-and-events and our newsletter which can be requested by calling 01670 320025. Supporters can also like and follow our facebook page for updates and information.

We invite everyone to support Carers Week this June and show their support to the unpaid army of carers in Northumberland.”

For Carers Week 2022 Carers Northumberland along with Carers UK, Age UK, Carers Trust, Motor Neurone Disease Association, Oxfam GB and Rethink Mental Illness  have come together to help carers access the information, guidance and support they need to help them in their caring role.

The charities are calling on individuals, services and organisations to do their part in Making Caring Visible, Valued and Supported – recognising the contribution made by carers and helping them get the practical, financial and emotional support they need to care for a loved one.

Hundreds of activities are taking place across the country during Carers Week and many people have Added Their Voice on the Carers Week website to make caring visible this year. To find out more about activities in Northumberland visit www.carersnorthumberland.org.uk
