BE YOU Emotional Wellbeing Support

Emotional wellbeing support for parents and carers of children and young people in the trailblazer areas of Ashington, Bedlington, Hexham, Blyth or being home schooled.

Children and Young People have suffered massively due to the pandemic and restrictions which increases the pressure on parents - who are already going through a hard time at the moment, so please spread the word. This is time-limited, the funding is only available to run sessions this year, but hopefully, if the need is there those in charge will see that this sort of help is needed for longer than a year.

Northumberland has been selected as one of 25 Trailblazer areas to develop programmes that improve young people’s mental health and the ‘Be You’ team was created by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust and Northumberland County Council with the aim of offering emotional health and wellbeing support to children, young people and adults giving them access to information and services.  Cygnus Support is part of this bigger team providing mental and emotional support at the earliest signs of needing help.

If you have any questions or want to talk to Amanda please call on 07377265036 or email amandasayers@cygnussupport.com; if you want to read more here’s the link to the Cygnus Be You web page Welcome to Cygnus Support and the NHS Trailblazers Be You web site Homepage | NHS Trailblazers (beyounorthumberland.nhs.uk)

Community Health Champions

Sharon Parmley, Communications and Engagement Officer, Ashington Town Council.

I have recently completed the Community Health Champion training course, which is part of the Public Health Team's provision of specialist health improvement support and training to local organisations and individuals with the aim of reducing health inequalities and improving the health and wellbeing of those living and working within Northumberland.

The training enables me to sign post to health and wellbeing information and services available across Northumberland.

The following is a list of useful links to information and services that will enable you to address your health and wellbeing needs.  If you need any assistance just give me a call on 01670 624520.

Green Social Prescribing

My name is Gem and I am a health and nature lead, working for Natural England.  I am working with Northumberland Wildlife Trust to explore Green Social Prescribing in South East Northumberland.

*Green social prescribing is the practice of supporting people to engage in nature-based interventions and activities to improve their mental and physical health. Green social prescribing includes both what is known as green and blue activities. These could include local walking schemes, community gardening projects, conservation volunteering, green gyms, open water swimming or arts and cultural activities which take place outdoors. These activities may be ‘prescribed’ by link workers (and other trusted professionals) alongside other forms of support, for example, referrals to support for housing or finances – based on the needs and circumstances of each individual.

As part of this project , we are firstly working with Ashington and Blyth and their surrounding areas.

To find out more about Green Social Prescribing visit the National Academy for Social Prescribing here.

Self help and support with Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust

Welcome to the Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust website. We provide a comprehensive range of mental health, learning disability and specialist services across northern England.

We have produced an award-winning series of self-help guides available at www.cnt.nhs.uk/selfhelp. These free resources offer an introduction to evidence-based techniques for conditions such as anxiety, depression, OCD and more. While not a substitute for professional support, the guides provide useful strategies to start your self-help journey.

Please follow the link here for a full list of self help leaflets.

Talking Marras

Evey Friday 10am to 2pm at The Hirst Welfare Centre, Alexandra Road.

Talking Marra’s has been running since 2018 as a peer support group that was created when another group folded.

We are a group of people who have all suffered with some kind of mental health issues, whether it be anxiety, depression, loneliness or even just boredom.

We meet up to have a coffee/tea and chat with others, we do arts and crafts to sell at our fairs to raise funding for outings etc.

We have our own garden/allotment area where we grow our won salad and vegetables for a bit of gentle exercise and healthy, free eating.

We like to get involved with other groups in the area that might need a helping hand.

We have a private Facebook page where we can keep in contact and offer support to each other.

We play games weekly such as bingo and dominoes where you can win small prizes of chocolates, biscuits and soup.

We ask for a 30p donation for unlimited tea and coffee and 30p per game (normally play 4 per day.  This covers the cost of the prizes).

Why not come along and join in the fun!

Hope to see you soon ????
