New Civic Head and Deputy for Ashington Town Council

At the Ashington Town Council annual meeting last night, Tuesday 28th May 2024, Cllr Caroline Ball was elected as the new Civic Head, with Cllr Sophie Robinson elected Deputy Civic Head.

The positions of Leader and Deputy Leader remained unchanged, with Cllr John Tully continuing as Leader and Cllr Louis Brown as Deputy Leader.

Business Chair, Cllr Mark Purvis was duly elected to continue as Chair, with Cllr Graeme Wright supported and elected Vice Chair, taking over from Cllr Marjorie Chambers, who was thanked for her service as Deputy Business Chair during the previous year.

Chair, Cllr Mark Purvis thanked the outgoing Civic Head, Cllr Victor Bridges, for his dedication over the past year which saw him attend over 70 events and engagements.

Due to scheduling conflicts caused by holidays, photos of the ceremonial handing over of the civic regalia will be taken at a later date.

The business of the meeting also included co-opting a new Councillor for the College Ward. The successful candidate who was voted on unanimously is Gemma Hemsley. More details will follow to introduce Gemma, following her signing the official ‘Declaration of Acceptance of Office’.
