Ashington Gears Up for The Great Big Green Week

Ashington Gears Up for The Great Big Green Week

As the world continues its fight against climate change, Ashington Town Council is joining forces with local organisations to raise awareness and inspire action during The Great Big Green Week. This nationwide initiative aims to empower communities to take positive steps towards a greener future.

Recognising the urgency of addressing environmental challenges, Ashington Town Council has established a dedicated Climate Change and Environment Committee and is actively implementing an Action Plan. Additionally, the council has a dedicated Climate Change webpage to serve as a hub for sharing environmental information and initiatives.

During the Great Big Green Week in June, Ashington will host a special event on Tuesday, 11th June at the Ashington Market on Station Road. From 10a.m. to 2.30p.m., residents can engage with representatives from various organisations, including the Northumberland County Council Climate Change Team, Northumberland County Council Warmer Homes Team, Groundwork NE & Cumbria, Climate Action Wansbeck and Northumberland Wildlife Trust.

This collaborative effort aims to educate the public about climate change and provide practical tips on energy-saving measures, bill reduction strategies, and sustainable living practices. Attendees can also participate in a free raffle and learn about the initiatives undertaken by these organisations to foster a greener future.

By embracing community involvement and promoting environmental awareness, Ashington Town Council hopes to inspire residents to take meaningful steps towards a more sustainable tomorrow. The Great Big Green Week event promises to be an engaging and informative platform for individuals, families, and organisations to unite in the pursuit of a safer, greener future for generations to come.
