Ashington Regeneration Programme Drop In Events

Ashington Town Council urges members of the community and residents to attend the upcoming Ashington Regeneration Programme Drop-In events to find out the plans for Ashington's future and share their views.

"After many years of hard work and planning, the community is finally on the cusp of realising an exciting new vision for Ashington's town centre. This £30 million regeneration project represents a monumental step forward that hopes to breathe new life into our high street and surrounding areas. The town council is thrilled to see these ambitious plans start to take shape and become a reality that will benefit Ashington for years to come. We urge all residents to seize this opportunity to have their voices heard and be part of shaping Ashington's bright future," said Leader of Ashington Town Council, Cllr John Tully.

Ashington Regeneration Programme Drop-In Event Details:

  • Northumberland County Council will host two drop-in sessions this month for residents and businesses to explore the proposed plans for the town centre.
  • Event Dates: Saturday 18th May from 10am to 1pm AND Wednesday 22nd May from 4pm to 7pm. Both sessions will be held in the Arts Room at YMCA, North View.
  • Attendees can interact with County Council officers, Advance Northumberland representatives, and the project design consultants to discuss details on Wansbeck Square, Portland Park's upcoming cinema and restaurants, and the Grand Corner development.
  • Resident input from these drop-ins is crucial for the ongoing £30m regeneration programme, ensuring the plans align with community needs.
  • Key acquisitions by the County Council include sites at Wansbeck Square and Woodhorn Road (Grand Corner), enabling a cohesive long-term vision that improves pedestrian flow from the new Ashington Station through the high street, while creating an appealing link between Woodhorn Road and Portland Park.

The multi-million-pound investments aim to establish vibrant new facilities at each end of the high street, attracting both the local community and visitors, thereby increasing footfall, spending, and an overall reinvigorated town centre.
