Civic Head Attends Hirst Park International Festival

The Civic Head, Cllr Victor Bridges was delighted to be invited to attend the International Festival at Hirst Park on Saturday 22nd July.

Opening speeches (pictured below, from left to right) from Murtala Touray,  the Chair of Northumberland County of Sanctuary, Civic Head of Ashington, Diana Barkes, the High Sheriff of Northumberland and Ian Lavery MP.

Activities on the day included;

  • A bouncy castle and teacup rides
  • The fire service came to show people around the trucks
  • Full Circle worked with several women who are seeking asylum to make a range of foods from around the world so people could taste foods from different cultures
  • Blyth Shanty Singers
  • Northumbrian Pipers
  • Dancing from Hunter Theatre Arts
  • Craft activities
  • Living History did archery and historical reenactments
  • A charity football match between the asylum seeker men's football clubs from Ashington and Blyth. Blyth won.
  • A martial arts display from Choi Kwang Do Ashington

The weather was not good, but despite the rain the event was very successful, with at least 300 people attending.
