Wansbeck Community Links - Canny Little Christmas Appeal.

This Christmas, we would like to reach out to our elderly patients, including couples, who may be spending Christmas on their own or who have little or no contact with family or friends over the Festive season. We would like to spread some Christmas cheer and gift them a small present to open on Christmas day.

We propose a 'shoe box' appeal, which most people are familiar with for sending gifts to children in poorer countries abroad.

We are suggesting a shoe box sized box (boxes are easier to store than gift bags), wrapped in festive paper and filled with something like:

· Warm socks

· Gloves or mittens

· Scarf – woolen or fabric

· Toiletries – bubble bath, shower gel, hand cream, lip balm, bath salts, aftershave/perfume, talc etc.

· Crossword/sudoku etc book

· Adult colouring book and pens

· Fiction book – this doesn't have to be new – you could gift a book you've read and enjoyed and write a little message inside for the new reader.

· Hot chocolate/herbal tea etc

· Old style sweets – pear drops, rhubarb & custard etc

· Memo block or one that sticks on the fridge

· Little address/telephone book or a little diary

· A small craft set – cross stitch, etc – Aldi and The Works usually have small sets

· Hot water bottle

· Small thermos or insulated mug

In fact anything small enough to fit in the box that you think would be nice for an older person to receive.  Would also make it even better with a handwritten Christmas card, wishing them well – perhaps an inspirational quote in there for the coming year.

If you can mark the box with a gift label for either a lady or a gent please.  We're hoping to be able to get the patients together before Christmas to receive their gift box, but our Link Worker Team will be hand delivering to any patient who is unable to attend.

Please see the poster attached for information on how to nominate someone to receive a gift box.

Woodhorn Museum

Are you ready for an icy adventure at Woodhorn?

Follow the stunning ice trail around the museum, see live ice carvings and take part in creative activities throughout this special two day event. With plenty of ice sculptures waiting to be discovered, it will be a magical way for families to explore the museum.

The animal themed ice sculptures aim to shine a spotlight on the impact of climate change and inspire visitors to make their own climate pledges for the New Year.

Tickets are free but need to be pre-booked, and you must have a valid annual pass to enter the site.
