To mark Mental Health Awareness Week, Ashington Women’s Institute (WI), is launching ‘Happy to Chat’ benches to help combat the loneliness and social isolation affecting over 9 million people in the UK.

Following an open call, 139 pieces of artwork have been selected for display in The Open Exhibition 2022. The selected works by talented regional artists showcase a thoughtful range of responses to the theme ‘A Portrait of Northumberland’.

Ashington will commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Falklands Conflict as well as bringing to mind those who currently serve in the Armed Forces at a Service in the Ashington Memorial Garden.

Pursuant to section 87(2)(b) of the Local Government Act 1972, that Avril Chisholm formerly a Member of Ashington Town Council, has ceased to be a Member of the Council, due to her death, and that a vacancy now exists in the office of Councillor for the Town.

If, within 14 days (*) after the date of this notice (i.e. no later than Monday 9th May 2022), a request for an election to fill the vacancy is made to The Returning Officer, Elections Office, Northumberland County Council, County Hall, Morpeth, NE61 2EF by TEN electors for the Seaton (Ward), an election will be held to fill the vacancy, otherwise the vacancy will be filled by co-option.

Our very own local Community Radio Station, based in Ashington, “Koast Radio 106.6FM” have partnered-up with “The Unit Health and Fitness” gym to promote the benefits of exercise upon Health and Well-being.  

Artist Bethan Maddocks has transformed the Woodhorn Colliery Cage Shop into a giant temple to the worker bee in this art installation ‘Bees, Bees, Hark to your Bees!’.

Help is on hand for eligible families to make sure children and young people have access to healthy food, fun activities and stay warm over the Easter break. 

Ashington Town Council are supporting @Northumbrian Water’s Bin the Wipe campaign to raise awareness of the devastating consequences that can happen when wet wipes are wrongly flushed down the toilet.
