Wildlife Trust Engages Ashington Community in Nature Activities

Wildlife Trust Engages Ashington Community in Nature Activities

The Northumberland Wildlife Trust recently set up shop on Ashington Main Street, offering a variety of nature-focused activities for local residents. Passersby had the opportunity to learn about small plants native to the area and engage in lively discussions about the diverse flora and fauna found in and around Ashington.

Cathy from the Wildlife Trust was on hand to share their expertise on local ecosystems, wildlife habitats, and conservation efforts. Participants could get hands-on experience with planting demonstrations and receive tips on creating wildlife-friendly spaces in their own gardens.

The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of preserving local biodiversity and encouraging community involvement in conservation efforts. Discussions covered topics such as common bird species, local mammals, and the intricate web of plant life that supports Ashington's natural environment. One resident also discussed bats with the Wildlife Trust as they had recently seen one around Ashington.

Cathy from the Wildlife Trust expressed their delight with the community's response: "The people of Ashington are all very friendly and knowledgeable about the wildlife in and around Ashington. It has been a joy to talk to the people of Ashington and we welcome any suggestions they might have for future activities or anything we can do to support the local wildlife."

This positive interaction highlights the strong connection between Ashington residents and their local environment. The Wildlife Trust plans to use the feedback and suggestions gathered during this event to shape future community engagement activities and conservation initiatives in the area. The Town Council recently awarded Northumberland Wildlife Trust funding of £1,000 to support community projects/initiatives, so the engagement will come in very useful.

Residents interested in learning more about local wildlife or getting involved in conservation efforts are encouraged to contact the Wildlife Trust for information on upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.
