Free STEM Summer Club at Woodhorn Museum

Free STEM Summer Club at Woodhorn Museum

Woodhorn Museum are currently working on a project called Our Past, Your Future which celebrates the science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) heritage of our area and also aims to broaden awareness of current STEM careers and opportunities too. They are working with schools to engage children and increase their awareness of the opportunities out there for them in a fun, hands-on way.

As part of the project, in the first four weeks of the summer holidays Woodhorn Museum are running a summer club all about STEM. It is open to all, but they are particularly interested in targeting families who may be in need of food over the holidays.

The first two weeks of the summer holidays (from 25th July) is open to children aged 7-9 and the second two weeks (from 8th August) for children aged 10 – 11 and children should be able to attend for the whole two weeks for their age. The is completely free for children to attend - including lunch and snacks.

Woodhorn Museum are able to provide this free due to the funding of their project from the North of Tyne Combined Authority.

The club will be on 10am – 3pm each day Monday – Friday. On the last day of each club, we have an optional family trip – also free to participate in. (Venue tbc but it will be related to STEM).  Children must have a responsible adult with them to attend the trip and it will be a great way of getting children and their families to engage in STEM together. We are a friendly and helpful team, and all our activities are based around science, technology, engineering and maths – we aim to bust the stereotypes around these subjects and make it engaging for all!

They have lots of fun, hands-on science and engineering experiments, challenges, and crafts as part of the club and some lovely special guests who will be coming along too including Rockpool School, Northumbria University and Kielder Observatory.
