The role of the Civic Head

Ashington Town Council has exercised its power to provide and maintain bus shelters for several years. More recently, in addition to repairing shelters, the Council’s Assets & Facilities Manager has identified those shelters requiring replacement, and the Council has planned to replace four shelters each year.
The planned replacement of bus shelters contributes to improving the appearance of the town, as well as our commitment to reducing carbon footprint. Taking a local bus emits a little over half the greenhouse gases of a single occupancy car journey and helps to remove congestion from the roads.

Exciting plans are progressing to redevelop the play areas within the Orchid Meadows Estate, at Epsom Drive and Aintree Close.
Like the racecourses the streets and play areas are named after, we are galloping ahead and have received confirmation from our play partner Kompan that they will be installed in advance of the summer holidays.
The great news on these play areas is that they have been developed in consultation with local people, they feature accessible equipment, and Kompan’s Greenline range has been chosen, confirming the Council’s commitment to taking action to reduce the effects of climate change.
