Casual Vacancy - College Ward

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to section 87(2)(b) of the Local Government Act 1972, that Gemma Hemsley, formerly a Member of Ashington Town Council, has ceased to be a Member of the Council, due to their resignation, and that a vacancy now exists in the office of Councillor for the Town.

To note that as of 4th November 2024 (being within 6 months of the May 2025 elections), under Section 89(3) of the Local Government Act 1972, any casual vacancies arising in the council:

Must still be declared Will not trigger the right for electors to call an election Can be filled through co-option at the council’s discretion

Ashington Town Council Climate Change & Environment Committee Welcomes Community Partners

Ashington Town Council’s Climate Change and Environment Committee has taken a significant step forward in its mission to address environmental challenges by welcoming representatives from local community groups to join as committee members.

The inaugural meeting, chaired by Councillor Paul Wright, brought together environmental advocates from across Ashington to establish a collaborative approach to tackling climate issues.

“I am very grateful to everyone for your time, enthusiasm, and engagement – and I am very excited to see what we can develop with your help to move the Council and the town forwards on these issues!” said Cllr Wright. He added, “It is clear we have the right people in the room to make meaningful progress on our environmental goals.”

Ashington Town Council Awards Final Round of Small Grants for 2024-25

Ashington Town Council has approved the final allocation of small grants for the 2024-25 financial year, supporting a diverse range of community organisations and clubs that serve local residents. The Council has awarded grants totaling £3,665 to eight community groups, each providing valuable services to Ashington residents across sports, wellbeing, mental health, and social activities.

Councillor Lynne Grimshaw, Chair of the Finance and General Services Committee, said, ”We’re delighted to support these wonderful community organisations in their important work. These grants, while modest in size, will help sustain vital services that improve the physical and mental wellbeing of Ashington residents of all ages.”
