We are now sharing the information provided by Advance Northumberland to help keep our community informed. Please be aware that this is not a Town Council project, and we are not in a position to answer questions directly about the site or the details of the report.

Ashington Town Council held its Annual Meeting yesterday (20th May 2025), officially marking the start of the new Council term. The meeting welcomed both returning and newly elected Councillors who will serve the community for the coming period.
During the meeting, several key positions were determined through Council elections. Councillor Mark Purvis was re-elected as Chair of the Council, continuing in this legally required role established under Section 15(2) of the Local Government Act 1972. Councillor John Tully was elected as the Vice-Chair of the Council.

The Old Police Station at 104-108 Station Road, Ashington has been officially listed as an Asset of Community Value after being nominated by Repurposeful CIC. The owner has now given notice (received 16th May 2025) that they intend to sell the property.

The Workers Memorial Garden at St. John’s Churchyard on Newbiggin Road has undergone a remarkable transformation thanks to the exceptional craftsmanship and dedication of Mark Air and Ryan Appleby, with support from Ashington Town Council and local community members.
The enhancement project, which has revitalised this important tribute to those who have lost their lives to work, demonstrates what can be achieved when skilled hands are guided by genuine care and commitment.

Ashington Memorial Garden will be temporarily closed from Monday 12th May 2025 for approximately 4-6 weeks to allow for regenerative works to improve the area. These improvements coincide with other public realm works happening in the town.
