Civic Head Councillor Caroline Ball recently visited ESCAPE Family Support to witness firsthand how the organisation has used the £3,000 grant awarded by Ashington Town Council earlier this financial year.

Ashington Town Council has awarded a small grant of £500 to the Ashington Community Woodlands Parkrun, helping the popular weekly fitness event enhance its safety measures and improve the experience for participants and volunteers alike.

The Northumberland Line continues to transform regional transportation with the announcement that Newsham Station in Blyth will open to passengers on Monday, March 17, 2025. This marks another milestone in the project that has already seen over 110,000 passenger journeys since service began.

Ashington Town Council’s Youth Advisory Committee is launching a new collaborative initiative to complement and support the longstanding work of local water sports organisations at Wansbeck Riverside.

Building on the successful individual programs that Ashington Sea Cadets, Cambois Rowing Club, and Wansbeck Paddle Sports Club have run for many years, this initiative aims to bring these experienced groups together for a coordinated approach to increasing community participation in both on-water and shoreside activities.

Plans include a collaborative summer open day that will showcase the diverse range of existing opportunities, preceded by enhanced promotion of the individual open days and taster sessions these organisations have successfully delivered for years.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to section 87(2)(b) of the Local Government Act 1972, that Gemma Hemsley, formerly a Member of Ashington Town Council, has ceased to be a Member of the Council, due to their resignation, and that a vacancy now exists in the office of Councillor for the Town.

To note that as of 4th November 2024 (being within 6 months of the May 2025 elections), under Section 89(3) of the Local Government Act 1972, any casual vacancies arising in the council:

Must still be declared Will not trigger the right for electors to call an election Can be filled through co-option at the council’s discretion
