Voter ID needed to vote in any UK Election

Residents of the Haydon Ward may be asked to vote in a by-election, as a result of the Casual Vacancy declared on 20th July 2023.

Northumberland County Council Elections Office has received ten signatures requesting a poll. If there are more than two people nominated there will be a by-election on Thursday 12th October 2023. Please be aware that this is not the official notice of the election, which will not be posted until 7th September, after which time, nominations will be requested. However, in view that this will be the first election in Ashington under the new law that photo ID is required to vote at a polling station, it is worth making everyone aware at the earliest opportunity.

Think before you buy an E-Scooter

Although you can buy an e-scooter in the UK, you cannot legally ride a private e-scooter on a UK public road, cycle lane, or pavement; you can only ride on private land. The only e-scooters that can be used on public roads are those that are rented as part of government-backed trials.

The law is clear that e-scooters are classified as Personal Light Electric Vehicles (PLEVs), so they are treated as motor vehicles and subject to the same legal requirements.
