As one of Ashington’s most famous sons, Sir Bobby brought great pride and inspiration to our community through his outstanding football career.

The Civic Head visited Hirst Welfare on Wednesday the 18th October, where Northumbria Police held a Hate Crime Open Day, in support of Hate Crime Week.

The Enhanced Neighbourhood Services Partnership between Ashington Town Council and Northumberland County Council aims to make ongoing improvements to keep the town’s streets and estates clean and litter free, and to improve the environment by providing a pleasant and safe place to live. These are two of the four priorities of Ashington Town Council.
Overall, the collaborative approach is to ensure those resources being invested are towards activities that will visibly improve Ashington’s environment and appearance.

The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) has announced that it has secured part of a £295 million fund to support local authorities in implementing separate food waste collections. This could mean funding is on the way for Northumberland County Council.
Defra states that the £295 million will be allocated to cover the costs of transitioning to food waste collections, including capital expenses like bins and vehicles, resource costs to set up new services, and ongoing operating costs. Some of this funding has already been secured, with further amounts to be bid for in future spending rounds.

It has been declared by the Deputy Returning Officer for Northumberland County Council, that Graeme John Wright was duly elected to the post of Councillor for the Haydon Ward of Ashington Town Council, following an election that took place on 12th October 2023.

A by-election for the office of Councillor for the Haydon Ward will be held on Thursday 12th October 2023, to elect one Councillor.
