New Pontoon at Cambois Rowing Club Marks a Milestone for Ashington's Water Sports Community

Ashington Town Council is delighted to announce the successful installation of a new pontoon at Cambois Rowing Club. This significant achievement marks a pivotal moment for water sports enthusiasts and the broader community in Ashington.

The project, which came to fruition through the collective efforts of numerous individuals and organisations, stands as a shining example of community collaboration. Ashington Town Council, proud to be among the supporters of this initiative, recognizes the transformative impact this new facility will have on local river users.

Special recognition goes to Alan Fairholm, whose dedication and hard work were instrumental in driving this project forward. His commitment, along with that of many others involved, truly embodies the spirit of community service.  Kelly from the Rowing Club comments; "Alan has worked tirelessly to get the funding pulled together and everyone at the club is very excited to have our new pontoon".

The new pontoon is expected to significantly enhance the rowing and water sports experience in Ashington. It provides improved access to the river, making it easier and safer for participants of all skill levels to enjoy water-based activities.

Ashington Town Council Business Chair, Cllr Mark Purvis comments, "We're proud to have supported this great project alongside other funders. It's a wonderful example of how community collaboration can lead to significant improvements in local facilities. This achievement is a testament to the strength and spirit of the Ashington community."

Town and County Cllr Lynne Grimshaw said; "I'm thrilled to see the new pontoon at Cambois Rowing Club come to fruition. As both a Town and County Councillor, I recognized the immense potential this project had for our community, which is why I was proud to contribute £10,000 from my members' local scheme funds.

This pontoon is more than just an improvement for the rowing club - it's an inclusive asset that will benefit a wide range of river users. I'm particularly excited about the opportunities it will provide for our local Sea Cadets, who are based right next door. This proximity will allow them to make full use of this modern facility, enhancing their training and experiences on the water.

Furthermore, I believe this state-of-the-art pontoon will serve as a draw for outside users, potentially boosting local tourism and raising the profile of our beautiful riverfront. It's a testament to what we can achieve when we invest in our community's infrastructure.

Seeing this project completed reinforces my belief in the power of local initiatives to create lasting, positive change. Congratulations to everyone involved in making this vision a reality. I look forward to seeing the pontoon in use and the joy it will bring to water enthusiasts of all ages and abilities."

The pontoon's inaugural use is eagerly anticipated at the upcoming Wansbeck Long Distance Skulls and Small Boats Head event on the 19th October. This event will showcase the new facility and its benefits to the local sporting community.

This project's success underscores the power of community-driven initiatives and the positive changes they can bring. As Ashington continues to invest in its recreational facilities, projects like this pontoon installation pave the way for a more vibrant and engaged community.

Congratulations once again to Cambois Rowing Club and all involved in this remarkable achievement. The new pontoon stands as a symbol of progress, collaboration, and the bright future of water sports in Ashington.
