Ashington Town Council Commends Northumberland County Council Neighbourhood Services Team

Ashington Town Council is pleased to share the ongoing efforts of the Northumberland County Council Neighbourhood Services Partnership Team, funded through a significant Partnership Agreement. This agreement, underpinned by Ashington Town Council, supports a dedicated workforce of five operatives, including the essential vehicles and machinery required to maintain and enhance our community environment.

The primary responsibilities of this workforce include emptying public litter bins, street cleansing, and responding to incidents of fly-tipping. However, these dedicated operatives have on occasion been redirected to tackle other pressing issues such as weed spraying, clearances, hedge maintenance, and strimming. This adaptability ensures that they can provide comprehensive support to the core workforce, addressing a wide range of environmental issues in Ashington. We have included various before and after photographs shared at our last two Partnership board meetings.

In these tough times, the workforce face challenging circumstances, yet their commitment and hard work is clear. Efforts to keep Ashington clean and safe are appreciated by the Town Council, and we would like to hear your thoughts on the work being carried out. Ashington Town Council extends its gratitude to Northumberland County Council Neighbourhood Services for their dedication and resilience. As well as the Town Council being grateful to the workforce for their efforts, Northumberland County Council is exceptionally grateful to Ashington Town Council for the significant financial contribution to these front-line services.

The Partnership Agreement links to two of the Town Council’s priorities, ‘Keeping the town’s streets and estates clean and litter free’, and ‘Improving the environment by providing a pleasant and safe place to live.’

Leader of Ashington Town Council, and Chair of the Partnership Board, Cllr John Tully said, “Regrettably, there is still much to be done, and it remains a constant battle. However, together, we are committed to striving for a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant Ashington.”

We welcome residents to share their thoughts on the work being carried out. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve our community. Please get in touch with your comments and suggestions. Contact Us.
