Ashington Town Council welcomes Allotment Officer

Ashington Town Council is excited to announce Alan Bunker as our new Allotment Officer overseeing the town's eight allotment sites and nearly 800 allotment plots.

In this vital role, Alan will build relationships between the Council and allotment holders, promote allotment gardening, and ensure pleasant, thriving green spaces across Ashington. He will manage tenant agreements, inspect plots, collaborate with allotment associations, and find solutions to better serve needs on our sites.

"We're thrilled to welcome Alan to Ashington Town Council, said Cllr Lynne Grimshaw, Chair of the Personnel Committee,

“He is the perfect fit for this position, and his experience and dedication will help provide a safe, enjoyable environment for our allotment holders."

Alan’s role has started today. As part of his duties, he will oversee direct management of four council-run allotment sites, while supporting associations that manage four additional sites in town.

Alan will actively manage and maintain council-run allotment sites, build relationships with allotment associations, represent the Council's allotment service, and find solutions to improve the provision of allotments in Ashington.

"I'm excited to join Ashington Town Council", said Alan,

"My goal is to support the council’s statutory duty of providing allotments and ensure our sites are pleasant, productive places for residents to garden and gather."
