Great British Spring Clean Campaign 2023

Great British Spring Clean Campaign 2023

Ashington's effort for The Great British Spring Clean Campaign for 2023 has been a huge success this year.

Back for its eighth year, the 2023 Great British Spring Clean takes place 19 March – 6 April.

The campaign encourages volunteers, community groups and businesses to help improve the environment through targeting litter and particularly plastic waste.

As in previous years Ashington Town Council organised a number of litter picks across the town, in partnership with Northumberland County Council, to support the 2023 campaign as follows;

Peoples Park, Wednesday 22nd March, a big thank you to all of the volunteers who turned out on Wednesday morning, including the young adults from Brightside Adult Services and collected 15 bags of rubbish from around Peoples Park.

Wansbeck Riverside, 23rd March, another big thank you to volunteers who turned up on a beautiful, but windy day down the river.  A total of 20 bags of rubbish collected from along the river, park and tree line.

North Seaton Colliery, 23rd March, a massive thank you to the new committee members at North Seaton Colliery Community Centre, Cllr Pauline Thompson and other volunteers, who collected a total of 20 bags from the North Seaton Colliery area.

Paddock Wood, 24th March, thank you to all the volunteers and young adults from Parkhead Resource Centre, along with Cllr Jim Lang, and Cllr Louis Brown, who collected a massive 25 bags of rubbish including fly tipped toys and other items.

Hirst Park & surrounding area, 25th March, thank you to 1110 Ashington Squadron Air Training Corp volunteers, George Dobson and Elaine Peverley from the Ashington Litter Picking Group.  A total of 10 bags were collected on the day, with special thanks to Sarah Bredin-Kemp for providing tea and coffee for the volunteers at the Hirst Park Pavillion.
