Northumberland Line – site set up, Wansbeck Square Car Park

Northumberland Line – site set up, Wansbeck Square Car Park

Contractors working on behalf of Northumberland County Council will be reconfiguring the Wansbeck Square Car Park in mid September, in preparation for works starting on the new Ashington station, part of the Northumberland Line. The works are essential for the development of the project, which aims to improve connectivity and accessibility in South East Northumberland by bringing passenger trains back into service between Ashington and Newcastle.

From 5 September, we will be undertaking surveys, removing vegetation, setting up worker welfare facilities and relocating the recycling facilities in the current car park. During this time, public car parking will be restricted and in a different layout, but vehicle and pedestrian access will be maintained throughout.

From 12 September, we will be undertaking further works to set up the station worksite, including constructing a temporary access road, putting up site fencing, and setting up our site compound. The new public parking area will change layout again but will be signposted on site. This will remain in place until the end of the works for the station.

Any significant changes to the duration of this programme or to shift timings due to site specific conditions will be communicated via further letters.
