Ashington Veterans and Elders Institute Receive Award

Ashington Veterans and Elders Institute has today been awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.

We are delighted to accept this and feel extremely proud and privileged to receive such high recognition for what our charity stands for.

The committee would obviously like to thank our members, visitors and volunteers, and everyone who is currently involved in our many activities.

They would especially like to thank all of our past members and committee members who, through a lot of very, very hard work, ensured the institute has been around for such a long, long, time.

Without past prosperity and successful achievements, loyal and continued membership, the place simply would not be here.

There's no doubt we've recently benefitted from a lot of financial investment and much-needed internal and community support which has helped us improve what we do and how we do it, but this award is very much about how the place came to be and what it has stood for for over a century.

This is a very proud day for all of our members and a testament as to how we are governed, how we are organised and what we do for the community and for other charities, as well as for our longevity.

This award is the equivalent of an MBE and it is for life, and the committee thanks everyone for their own personal contribution. We can now use the Royal QAVS emblem on any institute correspondence.
