Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs)

Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs)

Northumberland County Council want to support more people of all ages and circumstances to walk and cycle more often and make active travel the natural choice for short journeys.  To achieve this, we will focus on our main towns, where we will strive to create walking and cycling networks that are joined-up, safe, attractive and accessible to all.

Along with our partners we have set out our walking and cycling vision in 'Our Way', below.  This document outlines Northumberland's walking and cycling ambition and sets out 4 walking and cycling goals:

Goal 1 Sustainable Towns: Enhancing the pedestrian and cycling environment in our towns, creating walking and cycling networks that are joined-up, safe, attractive and accessible to all.

Goal 2 Active Place: Working with communities, businesses and schools to support walking and cycling.

Goal 3 Quality Ways: Enhancing the quality and usability of the county’s network of recreation and long distance walking and cycling routes.

Goal 4 Inspiration and Support: Raising the profile of walking and cycling.
