Northumberland Line Special Service

Welcome on Board the Northumberland Line Route Familiarisation Special Service.

Civic Head, Cllr Pauline Thompson received an invitation to attend the special train journey, departing from Newcastle (Platform1) at 12:47pm, Wednesday 26th January 2022.  Cllr Thompson was joined by son Graeme who frequently uses public transport to and from Newcastle, fro Ashington; a journey he has made for over twelve years.  

Cllr Thompson commented "She was delighted to attend the special service, and that once opened it would make a huge difference to those those travelling into Ashington, and from Ashington to Newcastle."

All passengers were instructed that they were riding in a 2-car Class 158, the same type of unit that will be running along the Northumberland Line when it opens, with a seating capacity of c.130-140.

Passengers were also informed that the conductor would be pointing out key points along the route.  The train travelled through, Newcastle- Heaton - Benton Station- Palmersville - Northumberland Park (link up with Metro) Backworth - Holywell - Seghill - Seaton Deleval - Newsham - Blyth Bebside  and finally Bedlington Station, where the train returned the same route.  Work is currently ongoing with the last section to Ashington.
