With spring just around the corner, Ashington Town Council is launching an exciting new “Action for Insects” plan!

As spring approaches, Ashington Town Council is taking steps to protect and support the insect populations that are vital to the local ecosystem.

The Town Council previously announced the very sad passing away of Councillor Vicki Brown. This has created a vacancy for a Councillor in College Ward, and following Vicki’s funeral yesterday the vacancy is now officially declared.

As part of our commitment to creating more insect-friendly spaces in Ashington, today’s activity is all about providing homes for nature’s pest controllers - bats!

The Town Council aims to create a more inclusive and equitable community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and succeed. Ashington Town Council held its monthly Finance and General Services Committee meeting last night. The meeting began with a moment of silence to mark the sad passing of Councillor Vicki Brown, and a tribute by Chair, Cllr Lynne Grimshaw.

As the warm days of spring approach, Ashington Town Council is taking a proactive stance to protect and nurture the insect populations that are essential to the local ecosystem.

Ashington Town Council commenced a programme of placing Speed Indicator Devices (SID) around the town, in 2018, following residents expressing concerns of drivers using excessive speed.
