The links between Ashington, Newbiggin by the Sea and the Remscheid area in Germany, go back to the 1950’s and the town twinning agreement was one of the first between the United Kingdom and Germany following the Second World War.  

In 2015 a new partnership agreement between the town councils of Ashington and Newbiggin by the Sea and the City of Remscheid Council was duly signed by the respective mayors of each area reaffirming these well-established links.

A public exhibition to celebrate these links over the past 70 years will take place on Friday 25 October 2024 from 1.00PM till 3.00PM at the Newbiggin Maritime Centre Church Point    Newbiggin by the Sea    NE64 6DB

The exhibition will include photographs, memorabilia and a performance by the Ashington Male Voice Choir
