As part of Ashington's 150th celebrations Friends of Ashington Community Woods will be leading a series of Wildflowers in the Woods walks.
The first walk will start at 7pm on Thursday 25 May meeting at the barrier into the Community Woods, past Ashington Police Station. The aim will to be back at 8:30pm. The walk will cover approx. 1.5 miles of natural woodland.
Walks are informal, easy grade, on good paths and are for complete beginners who are interested in natural history and the well-being of the woods. The walks will take place in all weathers - except for complete deluge conditions!
This is part of the Miners Memorial Meadows project so some references will be around researching mining history at the time of the WW1.
This is a free event and you don't need to book - just turn up with plenty of enthusiasm. A donation to the Friends of Ashington Community Woods would be gratefully received.
The walks have been developed with funding from Groundwork NE and The Big Lottery Fund.
