A community litter pick took place in Paddock Wood, North Seaton, on Saturday (28 April).

Over thirty people came along to support the litter pick, including members of the 1St Hirst Scout Group, and helped collect 40 bags of rubbish.

In the picture are some of the scouts, volunteers, Cllr. Jim Lang (at rear) with some of the rubbish collected.

The litter pick was organised by Ashington Town Council, supported by Northumberland County Council, and is part of ongoing efforts to target and tackle litter which annoys and frustrates many residents in the town.

Paddock Wood is a fantastic green space with children’s play facilities including a skate park but sadly suffers from the effects of litter, fly tipping and inconsiderate dog owners.

To improve the environment Ashington Town Council has an on-going programme of placing litter bins around the town as well as recently funding an Environmental Officer to target fly tipping, dog fouling and those that continually persist in dropping litter.

Ashington Town Council would like to thank all who supported the litter-pick.
