The sun shone as thousands turned up to Ashington’s Annual Fayre Day on Sunday (1 July).

The Fayre, at the rear of Wansbeck Square, included fairground rides, live music from top local bands, market stalls and a range of family entertainment. Numerous community groups also attended the event to promote their work in the town including the Girl Guides, Ashington Karate Group, Sea Cadets and Ashington Town Football Club. As part of the event Ashington Cricket Club also hosted their annual Real Ale & Cider Weekend which also proved very popular.

Top local bands performed at the Fayre as well as an outstanding performance by touring Canadian singer & guitarist Ariel Posen. Local dance group Tribe Zuza also wowed the crowd with two performances during the day.

Magic was provided by magician Tony Junior and characters from Paw Patrol and the Minions also visited. Northumbria Police and Northumberland Fire & Rescue also provided an opportunity for the children (and the adults) to look and sit in their vehicles!

The Fayre was brought together by a dedicated working group of local community organisations and volunteers working alongside Ashington Town Council including the Ashington Town Team, Bad Apples North East, YMCA Northumberland, Ashington Cricket Club as well as Northumberland County Council.

Ashington Town Council would like to thank all those individuals and organisations who contributed to make the event a success.

Thank you to Ashington Camera Club and Mr Peter Arris who photographed the event.
