The Great British Spring Clean Campaign for 2019, organised by Keep Britain Tidy, will take place from the 22 March till the 23 April.

Last year, over 370,000 volunteers joined forces at over 13,000 events across the UK to take a stand against litter. The campaign encourages volunteers, community groups and businesses to help improve the environment through targeting litter and particularly plastic waste.

As in previous years Ashington Town Council has organised a number of litter picks, across the town, in partnership with Northumberland County Council, to support the campaign.  The litter picks will take place as follows;

Wansbeck Riverside  Wednesday 3 April - 10.00am till 11.30am. Meeting at Cambois Rowing Club car park.

Peoples Park  Thursday 4 April - 10.00am till 11.30am. Meeting at the main car park.

Ashington Community Woodland  Friday 5 April - 10.00am till 11.30am. Meeting at the entrance to the Woodland - past the Police Station and over railway line.

Paddock Wood in North Seaton  Saturday 6 April - 10.00am till 11.30am. Meeting at North Seaton Community Centre.

Hirst Area  Sunday 7 April - 11.00am till 12.30pm. Meeting at Heart of the Hirst 's HQ, at 82 Beatrice Street, on Second Avenue.

Last year a good number of volunteers supported the Ashington effort including young people from scout & guide groups, the YMCA and a number of other community groups.

If you, your community group or business would like to take part the Town Council would like to hear from you. The Town Council will provide litter pickers, gloves and bags on the day.  Northumberland County Council will also be supporting the effort.
