The Alligator Klub is a night club for people over 18 years with learning disabilities and their carers in Ashington.
The Klub meets on the last Friday of the month using the facilities at the Masonic Hall on John Street. The group commenced in 2011 and provide a range of themed nights for their monthly get-togethers. Recent events have included a 70’s night, an Open Mic Session and an Easter Eggstravaganza which included an Easter Hat competition.
At the last event, on Friday 29 March, John Ternent, Treasurer of the Bothal Lodge of Freemasons, presented a cheque of £1,000 to the Klub to support the work of the group. The Deputy Civic Head of Ashington, Cllr. Lawrence Henderson, also went along to see the activities taking place and helped hand out over 100 Easter Eggs to members of the Klub.
Pauline Thompson, one of the organisers of activities, said ‘We really appreciate the support from the Ashington Lodge as well as the Deputy Civic Head coming along too. Beneficiaries come from across the North East but the majority of people who benefit from activities come from Ashington and surrounding area’.
The Klub runs from 7.00pm till 10.15pm and welcomes new members. Activities planned for the rest of 2019 include a Space Night and a Girl Band v Boy Band evening.
