The 156th Northumberland Miners' Picnic was due to take place on Saturday 13 June at Woodhorn Museum in Ashington.

Sadly, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Picnic has had to be cancelled. However, Woodhorn Museum have organised a digital celebration of the event and are inviting all to join in the celebration on the day.

The event can be accessed on the Museum’s website (details below) and Facebook page where memories of Picnics’ past will be shared as well as a Miners’ Memorial Tribute. A family-friendly programme of dance, music, art and circus will be provided all inspired by Northumberland’s rich coalmining heritage.

Highlights include a special performance of ‘Pitman’ by Eliot Smith Dance, a secret music performance and a 'Lockdown Circus Spectacular'! You will also be able to hear music from the ‘Brass Marras’, featuring four local brass bands; Ashington Colliery Brass Band, Bedlington Community Brass Band, Ellington Colliery Band and Jayess Newbiggin Brass Band.
