Mr Fred MacKenzie, Chair of Parkhead & Wansbeck Powersports, has been honoured for his work coaching youngsters in Ashington.
Fred was awarded a sword for his services to sport by the City of Newcastle at a ceremony at Newcastle Civic Centre. Previous winners of the award include Sir Bobby Robson, Jackie Milburn and Brendan Foster.
The Parkhead & Wansbeck Powersports group are based at Hirst Welfare Centre and provide gym facilities for both able bodied and disabled people whatever their ability.
Fred dedicates his time to the group and coaching powerlifting to youngsters having also won a number of Paralympic medals.
