A range of activities are lined up in Ashington this weekend (16 & 17 December) as the town celebrates the Christmas season.

Father Christmas will be visiting Woodhorn Museum on both Saturday and Sunday with advance bookings available 10.00am – 4.00pm daily. The 30 minute experience takes place in the atmospheric colliery stables and includes time for children to meet Father Christmas and enjoy crafting a seasonal decoration. A Christmas Family Fun Day will take place in Ashington Community Woodland on Saturday organised by the Friends of Ashington Community Woods group. The event will take place from 10.00am till 2.00pm and include Santa's Grotto, Christmas crafts (with an opportunity to make a reindeer!) and refreshments. The entrance to the Community Woodland is past the Police Station and over the railway line. The final Monthly Saturday Market of the year will take place on Station Road, from 10am, with a Christmas theme. Local community interest company MyNE63 deliver the monthly market on behalf of Ashington Town Team, with support of Ashington Town Council.

Finally, Ashington Community Cinema presents the classic Christmas movie Miracle On 34th Street. The film will be screened on Saturday, at 6.00pm, in the Ashington Life Centre (Old Court House) on Station Road. Tickets for adults is £4 with children and concessions £3. A family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) can be bought for £12.
