Ashington Sea Cadets came first out of seventy units from across the North East of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The Cadets have won the Stephenson Trophy following their yearly inspection where points are awarded for uniform, hours of training, sailing, community activities and a number of other factors. 

The Sea Cadets have also won the District Achievement Trophy. The trophy is awarded to the top unit in the Northumberland District with Ashington now winning this award three years in a row

Attending the presentation was Wansbeck MP Ian Lavery and Councillors Victor Bridges (Ashington’s Civic Head), Avril Chisholm and Lynne Grimshaw. The presentation evening also featured on Radio Newcastle.
