The Ashington Hirst Celebratory Outdoor Bowls Cup Competition 2021 took place on Saturday (11 September).

The competition commenced in 2017 when the three outdoor bowls clubs, operating in the town, commenced sharing the bowling facilities at Hirst Park.

Members from the three clubs (Ashington, Alcan and Hirst Park) now take part in the annual competition that is sponsored by Ashington Town Council.

The winners of the 2021 competition were the pairs team of John Dobinson and George Richardson (both of Hirst Park Bowling Club). The Civic Head of Ashington, Cllr. Pauline Thompson, went along to present the winners with their trophy and prizes and is pictured presenting the trophy to the winners.

In congratulating the winning pair Cllr. Thompson said ‘It is good to see members from all the bowling clubs coming together for healthy competition at Hirst Park. The Town Council is pleased to support the event and we hope it will continue to be a success well into the future’.

The runners-up were K Arkle (Ashington Bowls Club) and R Dunning (Alcan Bowls Club) and the other semi-finalists were J Dodds and L Taylor (both of Ashington Bowls Club) and M Appleby (Alcan Bowls Club) and M Waters (Ashington Bowls Club), who all received a prize.
