Ashington’s Christmas Lights Switch-On 2019 will take place on Thursday 28 November on Station Road.

The event will feature a Christmas Market, fairground rides, live music (including local school choirs), food and kids face painting. Northumbria Police and Northumberland Fire & Rescue Service vehicles will also be at the event.

Santa has also promised to visit Ashington, as part of his very busy Christmas schedule, and children will be able to visit him in his Grotto next to the Christmas Tree!

As part of the Switch-On new Christmas lighting features will be unveiled that have been designed by local schoolchildren. The now annual competition is organised by Ashington Town Council with schools from across the town. The winners of the competition will also lead the countdown to the Switch-On for their efforts.

Activities will commence at 1.00pm with the Switch-On taking place at approximately 5.15pm.  The one-way section of Station Road will be closed from 9.00am till 9.00pm on the day of the event to allow activities to take place safely.

The event is organised by local organisations working alongside Ashington Town Council including; YMCA Northumberland, Northern Funfairs, Northumberland County Council, Ashington Women’s Institute, Wilkinsons and schools from the town.

Please note the event and some activities are dependent on weather conditions with public safety of paramount importance.
